The Golden Thread  Playback Theatre Company

Spontaneous Theatre from Real Life Stories

Golden Thread performances:

  • Entertain
  • Celebrate diversity
  • Bring people together
  • Honour shared histories
  • Value individual experience

Playback Theatre is a unique form of theatre enabling audiences to tell their stories.

It was created by Jonathan Fox in New York and since 1975 has found its way into numerous settings in 17 countries.

People from the audience are invited to share moments from their lives.  They then watch them brought to life as the company immediately recreates the essence of their story using movement, dance, music and song

Connections are often made that bridge gaps in our communities and empower those who have been denied a voice.

Our performances are suitable for a wide range of settings including:
  • Community events
  • Schools, colleges and universities
  • Hospitals and residential homes
  • Conferences and team away-days
  • Celebrations and anniversaries

Quotes from our audiences:

"It felt as though we arrived as strangers and left as friends."

"...fabulous and magnificent...I have never seen anything like it."

"Very memorable.  It was great to hear other people's stories and see mine interpreted in such a short space of time."

We have worked in various community venues, day centres, primary, secondary and special schools, NHS secure units and psychiatric hospitals.

We are a group of Drama and Music therapists who have extensive experience of using the arts as a dynamic and interactive form of communication.

Our experience of working with different commmunities includes people with learning difficulties, those experiencing mental distress, disabled people, young people, older people and children.
